Meet Melissa My name is Melissa Zietlow and I'm from Wellington, Ohio. I homeschool because God called me to bring glory to Him by discipling our children at home. During the first few years, we read lots of library books, studied the Bible, and utilized various educational resources, such as computer software, board and card games, copywork, and the occasional worksheet. Real-life math and writing rounded out our schedule, which was really very unscheduled. This year my oldest, who is in third
grade, was ready for more scheduled studies. Too, I could see that
her sister needed more direction than she did. Therefore, I decided to use Sonlight for history
and language arts.
Since we also have a baby and a toddler, this
new schedule has worked out really well. We love the literature approach! Charlotte Mason
is also one of my favorites.
And we are using Answers in Genesis Beginnings for science, as well as a science devotional. It's easy to get burnt out with mothering and teaching. I often get overwhelmed. I accept that I am not perfect and cannot be superwoman. This is why I love my homeschool group. I gain sanity from relationships with other homeschooling mothers! I need support and ideas from those who are like-minded. I hope that anyone who is considering homeschooling or who is struggling to homeschool will reach out and find a group.
Meet the Group That Supports Melissa WeHomeschool2 is a growing group for homeschooling families in the Lorain County, Ohio area. It is run by two Christian mothers who like to have fun while taking their children seriously. The purpose of the group is for meeting and forming relationships with other local homeschoolers who are seeking in-person support and fellowship. Activities are casual, led by members, and determined by what the members want to do. We accept new members through our Yahoo Group message board and hope you will consider joining us if you are in the area. |
