Welcome to the Diapering Years! The first years of your child's life are a special time that will pass all too quickly, and my goal is to help you make the most of this time and to help you keep your baby healthy, happy, and comfortable. "I Never Knew How Simple and Satisfying the Routine of Diapering Could Be." Satisfying? Absolutely! Your baby loves nothing better than to have your undivided attention for a few moments of talking, tickling, singing, massaging, laughing, comforting, and hugging. And diaper changes are the perfect time for this one-on-one with your baby. It's true that at first diaper changes can seem overwhelming, but they quickly become second nature and all too soon will be just a memory. "How Often Should I Change My Baby's Diaper?" No matter what kind of diaper your baby wears, cotton or disposable, you should check often and change as soon as you find that he or she has wet or soiled the diaper. A general guideline is every two hours, although each baby is different. Leaving a baby in a wet diaper allows for bacteria growth and the production of ammonia, which will irritate a baby's skin if left in contact for very long. Feces is an incredible breeding ground for bacteria and can cause a major rash outbreak in a short period of time. Don't wait until your baby's diaper is soaked before you change it. Staying on top of diaper changes is the key to the health and comfort your baby deserves. |
